Paxton Olsen, Forward

Paxton Olsen joins the Summerland Jets as a right-shot forward who brings grit, energy, and a dependable 200-foot game to the team’s inaugural roster.

Originally from Drumheller, Alberta, Olsen grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown before continuing his development with the Wheatland Raiders, Airdrie Avalanche, and most recently the Airdrie Bisons in the AEHL U18AAA. Last season, he recorded six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 38 games, along with 56 penalty minutes.

At 6’0 and 165 pounds, Olsen describes himself as an aggressive, gritty forward who can be relied on in different situations. Positioning and hockey IQ are among the strongest parts of his game, and he takes pride in bringing energy, compete, and a strong work ethic to the rink every night. This season, he is focused on continuing to improve his skating while becoming a more complete player.

Olsen has also been part of his team’s leadership group and says accountability is an important part of the teammate he wants to be. He expects a lot from himself and the players around him, while making sure he brings a positive presence to the dressing room. Winning bronze at the U16 provincial championships stands out as one of the biggest moments of his hockey career so far.

For Olsen, Summerland stood out because of the environment around the rink, the dressing room, and the support already surrounding the team. He was also drawn to an experienced coaching staff with plenty of high-level playing and coaching knowledge to share.

The Okanagan is already familiar territory for Olsen, whose family regularly camps in Penticton. He is looking forward to playing in front of Summerland fans and becoming part of the community himself.

Jets fans can expect a player willing to compete every night and do whatever is needed to help the team win. Olsen’s goals for his first season are straightforward: continue improving his game, help the Jets succeed, and compete for a championship.
