The Summerland Jets represent the return of junior hockey to a community ready to build something lasting, local and community-driven. Led by a not-for-profit society, the team has been created to give young athletes the opportunity to grow while strengthening the spirit and economy of Summerland.
The return of junior hockey
The inaugural 2026/27 season marks the beginning of a new chapter for hockey in Summerland. It is the community’s first opportunity to help shape the team’s identity, establish new traditions, and lay the foundation for a program designed to support players, engage local families, and grow stronger with each season.
Community-owned and not-for-profit
The Summerland Jets are operated by a not-for-profit society rather than a private owner. In practice, that means the team is guided by a local board, supported by members, volunteers, sponsors, and fans, and run with the long-term interests of Summerland in mind. Any revenue generated is directed back into team operations, player development, and community programming instead of being paid out to an individual owner.
Our vision
To build a stable, community-supported hockey program that creates meaningful opportunities for players, gives families an affordable and welcoming place to gather, and strengthens Summerland through lasting local connections.
What the team means for Summerland
The Summerland Jets will contribute to the community in ways that extend beyond game night. Home games and team events can support local businesses, while players, coaches, volunteers, and partners create new opportunities for youth engagement, community participation, and shared civic pride.
What’s in a name?
The Jets name carries forward a familiar part of Summerland’s hockey identity and strengthens the connection between the junior team and Summerland Minor Hockey. It reflects a shared local history while giving young players a team they can grow up watching, supporting, and one day aspire to join.
League and player pathway
The Jets were first announced through the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League and will begin play in the British Columbia Hockey Conference for the 2026/27 season. As part of BC Hockey’s sanctioned Junior A system, the team will provide players with a competitive development environment and a pathway toward higher levels of junior, college, and professional hockey.
Leadership
The Summerland Jets are guided by the Summerland Junior A Hockey Society’s board and supported by a hockey operations team responsible for coaching, player development, recruitment, and day-to-day team decisions. Acknowledgement and partnership
