Ben Hakes, Goalie

Ben Hakes joins the Summerland Jets as a calm, athletic goaltender who brings compete, composure, and a strong team-first mindset to the crease. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Hakes grew up playing minor hockey with Glenlake before continuing his development with the Calgary Royals, Okanagan Hockey Academy, CIHA, and most recently the Blackfalds Bulldogs. His hockey path has given him experience in a range of competitive environments while helping shape the calm, competitive style he brings to the position.

Known by teammates as “Hakesy,” Hakes describes himself as a composed and athletic goaltender who takes pride in staying calm while still competing hard. He is focused on slowing the game down, reading plays more effectively, and giving his team a dependable presence in net.

Hakes has earned Best Goalie honours at the Victoria Island Classic and points to playing in the Circle K tournament as one of the biggest moments of his hockey career so far. He also looks to goaltenders Sergei Bobrovsky and Carey Price for inspiration, particularly in the way they combine athletic ability with control and poise.

For Hakes, joining the Jets is about more than simply finding a place to play. He was drawn to the culture being built in Summerland, the strength of the community, and the belief that this group has the potential to accomplish something meaningful together.

Jets fans can expect a competitive goaltender who wants to give his team a chance to win every night. His goals are straightforward: deliver consistent performances, earn wins, help the Jets compete for the division, and push toward a championship.

Away from the rink, Hakes enjoys reading, golfing, and spending time with friends. Hockey also runs in the family, with his dad having played the game.

This season, Hakes is ready to compete, keep developing, and help give Summerland strong goaltending every time he gets the call.
