Talon Hynes, Forward

Talon Hynes joins the Summerland Jets as a left-shot winger who brings energy, grit, and a relentless two-way game to the team’s inaugural roster.

Originally from Red Deer, Alberta, Hynes grew up playing minor hockey in Blackfalds before continuing his development with the West Central Tigers, Northstars Chiefs, and Red Deer Optimist Chiefs. Last season with the Optimist Chiefs in the AEHL U18AAA, he recorded five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 34 games, along with 30 penalty minutes.

Known by teammates as “Hyner,” Hynes describes himself as a hard-working, relentless two-way forward. His strengths include work ethic, hockey sense, passing, and penalty killing, and this season he is focused on improving his play along the wall and becoming more dangerous around the net.

Hynes also brings leadership experience to Summerland, having served as an assistant captain and captain earlier in his minor hockey career. Last season, he received the Ryan McBeath Award from the Optimist Chiefs, the team’s only individual award, recognizing the player who best represents coachability, hard work, and an all-around team-first approach.

For Hynes, Summerland quickly felt like the right fit. He was drawn to the community, coaching staff, and opportunity to continue developing his game, and says he felt welcomed from the moment he arrived. He is looking forward to playing in front of Summerland fans and helping build a competitive team from the beginning.

Jets fans can expect a player who brings energy, accountability, and effort every night. Hynes wants to be someone his teammates can rely on, regardless of his role, and help make the Jets a difficult team to play against.

Away from the rink, Hynes enjoys working out, watching movies, spending time with friends, and DJing. He also hopes to pursue a career as a paramedic.
