Eric Maina, Forward

Eric Maina joins the Summerland Jets as a left-shot forward who brings scoring ability, skill, and an offensive mindset to the team’s inaugural roster.

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Maina grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown and comes to Summerland after a strong season with the Calgary Royals U18 AA program in the AEHL. The Royals finished first in their division, captured the 2025/26 Calgary city championship, and advanced all the way to the provincial final.

Maina was a major part of that success. In 27 games last season, he recorded 24 goals and 15 assists for 39 points, along with 28 penalty minutes, finishing among the top three goal scorers in Calgary’s U18 AA division. Scoring in the provincial final stands out as one of the biggest moments of his hockey career so far.

Maina describes himself as a skilled, offensive player who takes pride in creating scoring opportunities and handling the puck. Jets fans can expect a forward who wants the puck on his stick and is looking to generate offence whenever he steps on the ice. As he makes the move to junior hockey, he is also focused on becoming a stronger player in the defensive zone and developing a more complete game.

For Maina, Summerland stood out because of the opportunity to develop within a positive, competitive environment. He was drawn to the experience of Head Coach Robert Dirk, a coaching staff committed to player development, and an organization he believes will give him the tools to continue moving his game forward.

Off the ice, Maina enjoys basketball and hiking. On the ice, his goals are ambitious. He wants to contribute offensively, continue developing toward the next level, and help the Jets compete for a championship in their first season.
