Cassius Ford joins the Summerland Jets as an athletic, competitive goaltender who brings Junior experience and a calm presence between the pipes.
Originally from Williams Lake, B.C., Ford grew up playing minor hockey in his hometown before continuing his development with the Thompson Blazers U18 AAA program and, most recently, the Chilliwack Jets of the PJHL. Last season became an important development year for Ford, who worked his way from backup into the starting role by January.
Known by teammates as “Cash,” Ford appeared in 24 regular-season games and five playoff games last season, finishing with a 14-8 record, two shutouts, a .890 save percentage, and a 3.85 goals-against average.
Ford describes himself as an extremely hard-working and positive goaltender whose strengths are his skating, athleticism, and ability to stay composed in high-pressure situations. This season, he is focused on improving how he reads and anticipates plays while becoming an even more dependable presence in the crease.
His path to goaltending started with his grandfather, a longtime goalie himself, who signed Ford up for a goalie camp and bought him his first pair of goalie skates. The position stuck, and Ford has continued to build his game around athleticism, compete, and a willingness to make the difficult save when his team needs it.
For Ford, joining the Jets is a chance to be part of building something new in a community he already feels connected to. Having grown up in B.C. and spent many summers in the Okanagan, he was drawn to the coaching staff, his new teammates, and the support surrounding the team in Summerland.
Jets fans can expect a goaltender who brings energy, positivity, and his best effort every night, along with what Ford promises will be “lots of crazy saves.”
Away from the rink, Ford writes and produces music, plays basketball, and enjoys learning about everything from chemistry and calculus to astrophysics and bioengineering.
This season, his focus is on becoming the best version of himself in net and helping establish a winning culture for the Jets from their very first year.
