Carson Paulgaard joins the Summerland Jets as a right-shot defenceman who brings size, defensive reliability, and a team-first approach to the blue line.
Originally from Airdrie, Alberta, Paulgaard grew up playing minor hockey in Airdrie, including time with the Airdrie Xtreme and Airdrie Avalanche, before spending the past two seasons with the Calgary Rockies in the JPHL. Last season, he recorded two goals and 13 assists for 15 points in 29 games while serving as an assistant captain.
Known by teammates as “Paulie,” Paulgaard describes himself as a steady, stay-at-home defenceman who moves the puck quickly and is not afraid to jump into the play when the opportunity is there. He takes particular pride in the defensive side of the game, including penalty killing, blocking shots, playing physically, and being someone his team can trust when protecting a lead late in a game.
Leadership has been an important part of Paulgaard’s hockey experience. In addition to wearing an “A” with the Calgary Rockies, he previously captained his spring hockey team for several seasons. One of the biggest moments of his career came in 2023, when he helped the Airdrie Xtreme win the U15 AAA provincial championship. That same year, he also had the opportunity to attend Lethbridge Hurricanes WHL camp.
For Paulgaard, joining the Jets represents a fresh start as he begins his first season of junior hockey. He was drawn to a hard-working group with something to prove, an experienced coaching staff, and the chance to become part of a community that is excited to rally around its team.
The Okanagan already feels familiar, with family in Penticton and plenty of time spent in the region over the years. Away from the rink, Paulgaard enjoys golf, woodworking, and road cycling, and has participated in the Okanagan Granfondo for the past two years.
This season, Paulgaard is focused on becoming quicker, continuing to develop his offensive game, and establishing himself as a dependable presence the Jets can count on in important moments.
